Refiners are continuously challenged to maximize valuable products from everyrnbarrel of crude processed. Strategies to maximize a refiner's profitability are not onlyrncomplicated by stringent regulations, but also a shifting availability of crude oil.rnPlans to handle these challenges are varied, and as a result, the operation of eachrnFCCU throughout the industry presents unique challenges.rnToday's operating environment pleads for further catalyst developments. Thernprocessing of heavy, difficult-to-crack feedstocks demands FCCU catalysts thatrndeliver the highest accessibility (diffusion) and are comprised of advancedrncomponents designed to mitigate the effect of metals, hence minimize regeneratorrntemperature and maximize resid processing. This blueprint will help the refinerrnoptimize the FCCU conditions to produce the desired product slate, from propylenernto LCO.1,2,3,4,5,6rnThe UPGRADER catalyst family offers higher accessibility than the market leadingrnresid catalyst, OPAL, delivering even more activity, better selectivities, and thereforerngreater performance. These catalysts are specifically designed and formulated forrnthe most challenging heavy feed and resid-containing cracking operations. Bothrnlaboratory and commercial examples are presented to demonstrate how this newrncatalytic solution can be integrated in today's increasingly complex FCCU operation.
