Based on a three-tower suspension bridge-the Taizhou Highway Bridge over the Yangtze River with main spans of 1080 m, two sample bridges with spatial cable system and double cable system are designed respectively, structural dynamic characteristics and aerodynamic stability are investigated numerically by 3D nonlinear aerodynamic stability analysis, and the cable system favorable to improve the wind stability of three-tower suspension bridges is discussed. The results show that in comparison with the traditional parallel single cable system, the three-tower suspension bridge with either spatial cable system or double cable system has greater structural stiffness, better dynamic characteristics and also wind stability, however the spatial cable system seems to be more favorable aerodynamically.
