A new stirrup arrangement of independent closed reinforcement hoops nested with each other in six high performance concrete shear walls (HPCW) with edge columns was developed, and verified by the pseudo-static test. All specimens were proportioned according to the theory of performance-based design. The height-length ratios of specimens are 2, 1.5 and 1 respectively, and axial load ratios of 0.28 to 0.40 are used. The cubic compressive strength of concrete varies from approximately 89MPa to more than 99MPa for different specimens. The strength of stirrup is 737.5MPa. The lateral deformation, load-bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity were critically examined. The effect of the quantities and scope of stirrup loops, axial load ratio, and the aspect ratio on load bearing capacity, deformability, the energy dissipation capacity of HPCW with edge columns were analyzed. The displacement ductility measured was 6.25~8.92, the coefficients of energy dissipation were 0.76~1.31.Results show that the new stirrup arrangement effectively improves the seismic behavior of the HPSW with edge columns.
