The speed control of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor was synthesized by finite state machine based on the second-order sliding mode control. This approach guarantees the feature that sliding mode control is not sensitive to the changes of parameter and disturbance, attenuates the chattering phenomenon and steers both the sliding variable and its derivative to zero in a finite time in the present of measurement noise with unknown upper bound. The speed control of permanent magnet linear synchronous motor is simulated by this approach. The simulation results show this approach has strong robustness against load disturbances and changes of parameters.
