When the preformed angle of the lap zone was varied, the stresses distribution in mid-bondline, interface near adherend as well as in adhesive adjacent to the interface of the single-lap joint formed from epoxy adhesive and aluminiumalloy adherend was investigated using elasto-plastic tmite element method (FEM). The results from the numerical simulation showed that all the peak stresses in the mid-bondline, interface near adherend as well as in adhesive adjacent to the interface of the joint decreased first and then increased again as the preformed increasing. The lowest value occurred when the preformed angle was in the extent of 8° to 10° meanwhile the stress distributed more even in all kinds of stresses along the lap zone. It may be a suitable value when take the preformed angle as 10° for single lap joint.
