In practical applications, virtually all UV reactors are continuous-flow systems. The combined effects of the flow field and irradiance field in these systems dictate that they deliver a distribution of UV doses. In turn, the dose distribution and the kinetics of the reaction(s) of interest (i.e., microbial doseresponse behavior) determine the performance of the reactor. Collectively, these attributes complicate the analysis of the behavior of these systems, as well as efforts to validate their performance
