An NS-2 Based Improved Simulator for GPRS Systems

Though there are a number of simulators for GPRS networks, none of them allows complete end-to-end simulation of GPRS protocols. For example, existing ns-2 based simulators for GRPS networks implement only a subset of the RAN protocols. Most of the simulators do not implement GTP (GPRS Tunneling Protocol), a crucial part of GPRS networks when communicating with the Internet. We present a GPRS simulator that alleviates the current state. It can be used to simulate almost all of the protocols (including BSSGP, SNDCP) as well as communication between a GPRS networks and other private data networks through GTP. Furthermore, the performance of GPRS systems has been evaluated both analytically and by means of simulation. As expected, the simulation results are in conformance with analytical results.
