Insolubilizers for Size Press Applications

Size press formulations have evolved over the years from simple starch-based formulations to completernpaper machine coating formulations. This evolution is continuing as more mills attempt to develop newrnand more profitable grades. Changing of the size press formulations presents an opportunity for the use ofrnadditives that normally are not needed in a size press. Insolubilizers are one of these types of additives. Ifrnthe correct guidelines are followed when choosing an insolubilizer they can improve a size pressrnformulation in several ways. This paper will attempt to explain the guidelines for the correct choice ofrninsolubilizer and the many types of benefits that can be gained from their use.
