A Proposal of Efficient Multicast Distribution Scheme Using Erasure Codes And its Evaluation

For efficient multicast distribution services on the Internet,rnthe suppression of the influence of packet loss is important.rnAs a solution to this problem, Forward Error Correctionrn(FEC) based on Reed-Solomon codes is usually used.rnHowever, this causes an increase in network traffic, thernweakness of burst packet losses and an increase in processingrntime at the encoder, or decoder. In this paper, we focusrnon erasure codes, which are a new approach to FEC, andrnpropose an efficient multicast distribution method whichrncombines the multicast distribution using erasure codes andrndirect request to the server. We implemented the proposedrnmethod and confirmed its efficiency with respect to redundancyrnand processing time.
