A reservoir numerical simulation study was done to model arnpolymer gel treatment pilot test without mechanical isolation,rnthat was performed to improve the injection profiles and thernsweep efficiency in a water injector well of an hexagonalrnpattern in the Lagomar field located in the Maracaibo Lake inrnwestern Venezuela.rnThe gel treatment pilot test was performed in the C-4rnreservoir, a layered highly heterogeneous Eocene sandstone.rnIn this reservoir water injection for secondary have beenrnperformed for over tree decades. High water cuts have forcedrnmanagement to shut in several producing wells.rnA reservoir characterization analysis that included PLT logs,rncore analyses, and geomechanics, identified the presence ofrninduced fractures as a cause of low sweep efficiency. Basedrnon this reservoir study, a polymer gel treatment was designedrnfor an injection well located in the center of a hexagonal wellrnpattern.rnA commercial gel polymer technology (MARCITsm) wasrnselected to modify the injection profile in this pilot test. Thernresults from the test injecting 3700 barrels of gel in the waterrninjector well were very promising, showing an averagernreduction of 30% in water cut and 26,850 barrels ofrnincremental oil five months after the treatment.rnA reservoir simulation study was developed using STARS, arnK-value compositional reservoir simulator with gel modellingrncapabilities. The model reproduces reasonably thernperformance observed in the field pilot test.
