DIFFUSION BONDING OF IRON AND IRON-COPPER POWDER COMPACTS

Sinter-bonding of green compacts on side faces perpendicular to the pressed face results in growth of existing micro cracks perpendicular to the pressing direction with an increase in bonding pressure. Then, a large expansion of the compact in the pressing direction and a decrease in transverse rupture strength occur. During the separate bonding of already sintered compacts on side faces, there is no growth of micro cracks. Then, the transverse rupture strength increased with bonding pressure. Copper addition increases the stability of joint strength in wide pressure range.
