The powder injection moulding process (PIM) not only requires a process fitted feedstock, mould and machine technology but also the right strategy for setting up the parameters for injection moulding. Starting with the selection of a suitable injection moulding machine for PIM this paper covers the strategy for setting up the process parameters of the injection moulding process in order to avoid defects of the parts related to injection moulding. The paper will focus on the influence of the moulding parameters dosage speed and back pressure during dosing, injection flow and required injection pressure, switch over point, holding pressure, flow and holding time for processing metals and ceramics.
