Why We Should Stop Using Pseudopressures and Other Good Old Well TestInterpretation Tools After So Many Years of Good Service

Some well test interpretation techniques still in use today wererndeveloped more than 30 years ago, to help the engineer at arntime he/she (generally he) only had graph paper, a handrncalculator and a set of printed type-curves. Unlike humanrnbeings, age is not a reason by itself to retire a technique. But,rnoriginally invented by paradigm breakers, thanks to our inertiarnsome techniques have become paradigms themselves. They nornlonger bring anything, they confuse the learning of youngrnengineers and worse, sometimes turn out to be incorrect andrnstand in the way of more rigorous and promisingrndevelopments. It may be time to retire them from our industry,rnacknowledging what they brought us in the past. The authorrnrespectfully suggests to get rid of type-curves,rnpseudopressures and pseudotimes. In each case, the authorrnwill try to explain why these tools were developed, why theyrnwere originally useful, but no longer. If the author survivesrnthis one, the following publication will deal with the Horner3rnplot, equivalent time functions4 and deconvolution5. Otherwisernthere is absolutely nothing new in this paper.
