This paper deals with a gravity filtration of industrial wastewater. A cake filtration unit was attached near the bottom of a sidewall in a tank in which suspension is stirred. To prevent the growth of the cake thickness, the mixing velocity near the cake surface was enhanced, just like the dynamic cross-flow filtration. To simulate this filtration operation, a mathematical model was developed using Darcy's law together with the mass conservation equation for both the liquid and solid phases. The numerical prediction of this model reasonably agreed with the results of the laboratory experiments. Using the numerical solution of this mathematical model, the effects of some filtration factors on filtration process are discussed.
