Present status of ~(99)Mo- ~(99m)Tc generator in Japan

In Japan most of the demand of ~(99m)Tc is relying on fission produced ~(99)Mo imported from overseas. The (n, γ) ~(99)Mo- ~(99m)Tc generator is not in the state of practical use but research and development are going on. Since 1995, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) and Kaken Co. Ltd. have been collaborating to develop the Mo adsorbent material of poly zirconium compound (PZC) fit for so called (n, γ ) method. In 2000 the Kaken and the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) of Indonesia has facilitated to promote the technology of PZC based ~(99m)Tc generator under the joint research agreement. Along with the cooperative experiments between two bodies, very promising results are coming out. Some of these results will be disclosed in the present workshop.
