An overview of residuals management will be presented. The generation rates by production category for solid waste, ash and residuals will be presented. The degree of difficulty of de-watering will be discussed. The major decisions to be made are how to thicken, how to de-water and what your final disposal technique will be. Merits of the de-watering options of filter leaf press, twin wire press and screw press will be compared. The final disposal options of landfill, incineration and beneficial use will be addressed. Emphasis will be placed on beneficial use. The alternatives (landfill cover, lightweight aggregate, admix to asphalt, admix to concrete, admix to cement, additive to cement kiln, artificial soils, land application, slow release agents and building products) will be briefly compared.
