摘要

Preliminary results from an ongoing analysis of the material properties of modern (1998) steel show that the basic reliability underlying the AISC LRFD Specification is not significantly changed. Because the preferred constructional steel is a high strength material with a minimum specified yield stress of 50 ksi, it may be possible to increase the resistance factor φ for columns to a higher value of 0.90. Further work is going on in evaluating the influence of the material properties on the stability and reliability of structures made from rolled steel shapes.
