Australia has several distinct regimes where sea levelrnvariations differ in the coastal and nearby oceans. Thisrnpaper investigates sea level variations along the southeastrncoast and northern coast of Australia. It is tornintegrate data from multi-satellite altimetry missionsrn(e.g., Topex, Jason-1 and Jason-2) and tide gauges into arnconsistent map of coastal sea level for monitoring ofrnextreme sea levels around Australia. The temporalrncorrelation of sea level observations from satelliternaltimeter and individual tide gauge is investigated for 12rngauges. Both data sets are merged using a multivariaternregression approach. The performance of the multiplernregression model is analysed through computations ofrnhindcast skill and root mean square of multiple regressionrnbetween tide-gauge and altimeter observations. Thernresults suggest that the multivariate regression approachrncan efficiently integrate the two types of sea level data inrnthe northern coast of Australia, where the multiplernregression model used in this paper can explain morernthan 60% of sea level variations.
