More and more fluids are transported through pressurized buried pipelines. When new pipelines are constructed close to the existing ones, special precautions must be taken before blasting. Blasting vibrations cause forced strains and stresses on existing pipelines through different mechanisms. Together with the possible deviations from standards in pipeline construction these may put too much strain on the pipeline. In this work some mechanisms for vibration strains and stresses are studied and the stress levels caused by them estimated.
