EBU Color Filter allows LCDs to catch up with CRTs in Color' Takeo Sugiura

Can LCDs really take over from CRTs in Color? It has been the subject of debate yearly and still is. Last October, we officially announced a new color filter(CF) for LCD, EBU-CF, which conforms to the EBU color standard for High Vision CRT Television(ref.3). After various evaluations with a few LCD manufactures, we have started its mass production. The LCD-CF developments, from the very beginning, up to the high color purity CF(S-CF) and the EBU-CF, and a few more suggestions about what might take over from the CRT in terms of Color will be presented here today.
