ContraTherm Syntactic Phenolic Foam and Composite Systems - Innovative Fire Protection

Contra Therm syntactic phenolic foams and composites are now established in the oil and gas industry as highly fire protective, thermally insulative coatings. Certified jet fire protection is possible from material technology which can produce very large structures and cure under ambient conditions. ContraTherm systems were used extensively on both the Breitling Orbiter III and Cable & Wireless balloon gondolas. Recent advances have seen a low density slabstock product, ContraTherm MS400, used in an all-composite offshore accommodation modeule with in-built jet fire and blast resistance. A three-dimensionally mouldable syntactic system, ContraTherm MS200, is now also being evaluated by aerospace, defence and rail industries for the production of structural cores with inherent fire resistance and compliance with the most stringent smoke and toxicity legislation.
