The strain partitioning behavior during tensile deformation of a TRIP-aided duplex stainless steel at various strain rates was investigated in order to find the factors influencing TRIP in the steel.Nano-indentation tests revealed that the austenite was harder than the ferrite in this steel.Accordingly,the strain was more partitioned in the softer ferrite from the beginning of plastic deformation,resulting in the decrease of the driving force of stain induced martensitic transformation in the austenite.This partitioning behavior became more pronounced with increasing the strain rate and correspondingly the tensile ductility of the steel drastically decreased with increasing the strain rate.
