Pulsed power supplies are receiving close review nowadays, due to their application in various fields. A novel high voltage pulsed power supply (HVPPS) based on the concept of Marx-generator and dc-dc boost converter is proposed in this paper. Proposed HVPPS is modular and generates high voltage pulses at an adjustable pulse-magnitude, pulse-width and pulse-repetitiveness. The converter can produce unipolar as well as bipolar pulses. It inherently comes with the features like reliability, longevity and cost-affectivity. The principle of operation of the proposed HVPPS is discussed in detail along-with the mathematical expressions for the circuit parameters. Additionally, a comparative study among the proposed converter and existing converters is presented. A PSIM simulation for a 1.5 kV, 10 kHz BHVPPS has been carried out to validate the theoretical analysis.
