Conventional switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive employing a diode bridge rectifier distorts the supply current. This paper presents the power, quality improvement in proposed single-ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) fed SRM drive at AC mains and regulated the DC link voltage to obtain speed control of SRM motor up-to 1 kW rating. Considering cost constraints, this converter is designed in DCIM (Discontinuous Inductor Current Mode) to reduce the sensors and converter inductor cost and size as well. The current THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) due to peaky nature of current in conventional configuration is reduced below 5% under acceptable limits. Simulated results show the excellent performance of the drive for low voltage application and hence it provides the recommended solution for household applications.
