FIRE SAFETY OF UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

In the case of fire,upholstered furniture in residential dwellings can produce enormous amount of heat which typically leads to flash over and spread of the fire to other rooms.Certain resistance of the furniture to ignition can be easily and inexpensively accomplished by using flame retardant foam and textile.In spite of this,only two jurisdictions in the world have regulation on fire safety of residential furniture.This presentation reviews benefits of the old California and existing UK regulations and presents new results on transition from smouldering to flaming and on comparative furniture burning.
