摘要

High impact polystyrene (HIPS) with excellent flame retardancy and smoke suppression was obtained by incorporating suitable amount of expandable graphite (EG) and microencapsulated red phosphorus (MRP).The temperature inside the HIPS/EG/MRP composite upon burning was investigated by a home-made set-up.It is shown that the thermal insulating effect of the intumescent char can be characterized quantitatively by determining the temperature inside the material.
