PROPERTIES OF PHENOLIC FOAMS TOUGHENED BY POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL BORATES

Commonly used toughening agents for phenolic foams,such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) and diocty phthalate (DOP) usually result in a decrease in flame retardant properties of the foams.In this work,polyethylene glycol borates (PEG-BAEs) toughening agents were prepared,and the effect of them on toughening and flame retardancy of phenolic foams were studied.It was found that the incorporation of PEG-BAEs into phenolic foams leads to an improvement in the flexural and compression strengths,while the toughened foams still have good flame retardancy.
