The Arabic Tutor -An Intelligent web based Language Tutoring System for Teaching Arabic

Teaching Arabic is a real challenge. Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) could be used to facilitate teaching Arabic. This paper introduces the Arabic Tutor: a web based ITS for teaching a subset of the basic rules of the Arabic language. Arabic Tutor combines the flexibility and intelligence of FTSs with the availability of the World Wide Web applications. We chose the Arabic Language due to the scarcity of ITS research that focuses on teaching the Arabic Language. The Arabic Tutor was used and empirically evaluated by students in the Arabic Language Institute in the American University in Cairo. We focus on using PLITS (a pattern language for developing intelligent tutoring systems) in developing the domain module of the Arabic Tutor.
