Nature of Paper Variation

Paper properties vary in all planar directions as well as the thickness direction (ZD).rnThe planar directions are divided into machine direction (MD), cross direction (CD) and random. Random is termed residual (R). The scale or wavelength of variation extends from the smallest to the largest dimensions possible. Variations of all directions and wavelengths exist simultaneously.
