UTILIZATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT

This paper is a discussion of the high temperature testing performed on a piece of commercial electronic equipment used by the Army in a critical exercise by soldiers in a military environment. The paper addresses the use of a high temperature test chamber to evaluate the equipment for determination of its suitability in the intended environment. In addition, it demonstrates how the test chamber was used to discover and pinpoint a problem area as well as assist in developing a solution and verifying the fix. It demonstrates how environmental testing can be a very powerful tool in the development of a product.
