COPASA MG is a Brazilianrncompany which has been seekingrnwater supply staternfor new coliform andrnE. coli detection methods in the attempt to comply withrnthe new water quality Federal Regulations. Accordingrnto these regulations a greater number of analyses has tornbe carried out in every water supply systems includingrnthose in rural areas. Conventional methods forrnbacteriological analyses require investments inrnequipment and technical personnel. The new processrnfor coliform and E. coli detection - COLILERT /rnIDEXX - was chosen due to its simplicity and costrneffectiveness, specially in rural areas. The localrnpersonnel was trained and a low cost incubator andrnU.V. lamp box was developed to make the continuousrnbacteriological control feasible. This poster presentationrnaims to show COPASA'S solution for a low cost waterrnsupply bacteriological control and to get a feedbackrnfrom the experts in this field. It also intens to encouragernwater workers in developing countries to achieve theirrnown water bacteriological control and exchangernexperiences in this subject.
