Fly Ash from coal fired power plants remains a growing industrial waste problem. Estimates of recent annual fly ash utilization in the United States are in the range of 30% of the total quantity produced. It is in the interest of all concerned to significantly increase annual utilization of these materials. It is vital that desirable products containing high percentages of fly ash be identified, developed and marketed. The development of products that utilize fly ash as a primary raw material is rare and in contrast to the more common substitution for more costly ingredients in plastic or ready-mix concrete applications. Because of the absence of primary raw material status, fly ash is promoted as a cost savings opportunity and is largely viewed as such.
