Radiography for building renovation

Modification or renovation is more the rule than the exception in the life of a commercial building. Increasing demands for communications, data lines, and plumbing for coffee bars creates the need for coring holes in above-grade concrete floors. In coring holes, one must be aware of the possibility of outting power lines, post-tension cables, alarm wires, and rebar hidden in the concrete. Design and/or as-built drawings are not often available or accurate enough to assure that one of these features would not be cut in the coring operation. Costs resulting from damage to personnel, computers, and structural reinforcements could be astronomical.
