When it comes to Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) the Forging Industry is not any different from any other industry in their requirements for Quality or their choice of NDT methods. The Forging Industry must rely on the same old NDT methods which have been around for years. Magnetic Particle Testing is 67 years old, Radiography just celebrated it's 100th anniversary, and Visual Inspection goes back to the Stone Age. The American Society of Non-Destructive Testing (ASNT) lists 10 methods in their current Buyers Guide, but the traditional big five are Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Radiography (PT), Ultrasonics (UT), and Eddy Current (EC). Visual Inspection would be a sixth or the original method depending on your viewpoint. Each method has a particular niche or market with it's own distinct advantages and disadvantages.
