Suspended stripline shown in Fig. 1 offers several advantages at microwave and millimetre wave frequency as compared with the conventional stripline and microstrip. For example, this transmission line offers wider strip widths for the same characteristic impedance. Equivalently, higher values of impedances (typically upto about 150 ohms) can be easily realized. Since majority of field lines are in air rather than in dielectric, losses are considerably reduced, resulting in fairly high Q on the order of 500. Suspended stripline circuits are more stable over a wide temperature range than stripline and microstrip.
