A VPN (virtual private network) opens the door for alternative access providers to establish themselves with minimal investment in equipment.Unlike the traditional public network operators who had to invest in a lot of hardware such as switching equipment and lay cables in the ground to connect each building to the network.The alternative access providers want to gain access to the existing resources.VPN makes this technically possible.In contrast to the alternative access providers the traditional public network operators will have to face losing their monopoly market position in a deregulated market.VPN offers the chance to do business even with competitors.On the other hand VPN is challenging the craditional public network operators by enabling easy access without the need for high investment.By selling VPN to the competitors,the traffic in their own network will be increased,thereby increasing their own revenues instead of losing traffic completely to a competitor.It is of great importance to both the traditional public network operator and the alternative access provider to have a VPN that is comfortable and flexible as well as quick and easy to administer.The challenge is met by a VPN that gives profit to both sides in the deregulated market.The best way of realizing a VPN is through an IN-based VPN.
