Vehicular communication is considered an important technology in Intelligent Transport Systemsrnbecause it allows vehicles to exchange information with each other to improve road safety, trafficrnefficiency, and travel comfort. Several research projects have investigated the feasibility of vehicularrncommunication using a centralized or distributed approach. The distributed approach employs shortrangernwireless communication such as IEEE 802.11p, positioning technology (GPS) and positionbasedrnad hoc routing. The centralized approach relies on the wireless access network infrastructure ofrnmobile network operators. This paper presents a survey for both approaches and discusses thernadvantages and disadvantages of these approaches.
