In reviewing the events after the March 11, 2011 Fukushima accident, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Order EA-12-051, Reference 1, requiring new reliable spent fuel pool (SFP) instrumentation for pool level determination under beyond design basis event conditions. In 2013, URS prepared a calculation for a typical Boiling Water Reactor to determine the Total Integrated Dose (TID) potentially to be imparted to radiation sensitive underwater probes (one primary and one backup) planned for meeting this Order. Additionally, URS calculated the radiological dose rates to an individual standing on the refueling floor for various SFP fill levels.
