1.Introduction TiO2 has been widely used in technological applications such as photocatalyst, gas sensors and pigments. It has three main polymorphs: anatase, brookite and rutile. The rutile and anatase phase have been widely studied on their synthesis and application. However, phase pure brookite was hardly investigated for the difficulty of synthesis. We therefore describe a relatively simple method to synthesize phase pure TiO2 and investigate their application as photocatalyst. In present study, phase pure titania was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. Structure and photo absorption property of the samples were characterized in detail by combined means of XRD, raman spectroscopy, PL. The photocatalytic activity of brookite titania was investigated via bleaching Rhodamine B (RhB) under iodine tungsten lamp irradiation.
