In recent years, significant developments have occurred in the field of plastic pipe systems for gasrndistribution. Examples include improved polyethylene (PE), better joining methods, and thernintroduction of new materials such as multilayer pipes, crosslinked polyethylene (PE-X), andrnreinforced thermoplastic (RTP).rnNew and improved materials have expanded the use of plastic in gas networks. However, to usernmodern plastic materials to their full potential, it is necessary to have adequate standards. This paperrnprovides an overview of standards activity in ISO/TC 138/SC 4 related to plastic pipe used in naturalrngas networks.rnQuestions arising on requirements, requirement levels and test methods are being discussed. Actualrndata from new developments are the guidance on setting limit levels. Industry stakeholders canrnprovide valuable contributions by conducting research and development and round robin tests.
