This paper presents an analysis of the data received in field observations of the processes of the compact pack ice deformation in the Arctic Ocean. Special attention was paid to dynamic response of ice fields to shearing failure under highly damped situation. Extended lines of the ice breaks by the shearing failure are similar to the interaction contact in the ice-structure system. Records of the response of ice fields on such an interaction have the form of a sequence of saw-tooth impulses, and oscillations trains in plane of ice as well. The studied stages of interaction in the ice-ice system can, to some extent, discover a general mechanism of rise of dynamic loads on structures.
