Longlife, high-voltage, hermetically-sealed aluminum electrolytic capacitors

Under NASA Contract NAS 8-39371 hermetically sealed aluminum electrolytic capacitors were developed with ratings of 1800#mu#F/250V, 880#mu#F/450V, and 350 #mu#F/540V at 105 deg C and were life tested 2000 hours at 850 deg C and 105 deg C per MIL-C-39018. Some 250 V units were run 10,000 hours at 85deg C. Results were capital. Leakage currents remained low; shelf stability was excellent, and the 250 V units breezed through the 10,000 hours with little change. The 450 and 540 V ratings exceeded the state of the art for 105 deg C capacitors.
