The magnetic fluid seals are for the present the most important industrial application of magnetic fluids (ferrofluids) technology. Sealing capability of a magnetic fluid shaft seal is determined by the burst pressure, which is defined as the total pressure capacity of the seal before it fails. In the paper is described the experimental equipment for testing of sealing characteristics of magnetic fluid seals with magnetic focusing structure made on the sleeve mounted on the rotating shaft. Moreover is described the test procedure and are presented measurement results of the burst pressure in the multi-stage seals in dependence of number of sealing stages Z, sealing gap height #delta#, mean magnetic flux density B_m in the gap and rotational speed n of the shaft (up to 9000 rpm).
