Deployment Mechanism Design for Cost-Effective Data Uploading in Delay-Tolerant Crowdsensing

With more people than ever living in cities, urban sensing by the Internet of Things (IoT) is necessary to create a comfortable and convenient environment. Compared with the dedicated sensor platforms, smart phones equipped with a rich set of sensors can also be exploited to realize urban sensing by the way of mobile crowdsensing. For uploading the sensing data in crowdsensing, mobile data offloading over DTNs has gained a growing interest and is warmly welcomed by delay-tolerant applications, which can tolerate some delay and do not sacrifice too much users' satisfactions as well. However, the deployments of the events and the APs are independently operated by a crowdsensing platform and an infrastructure operator, respectively. The crowdsensing operator wants to upload the sensing data from the events through as much as possible access-points (APs), and the infrastructure operator wants to place less APs to cover the requirements of the sensing events. In this paper, we model the offloading relationship between the sensing event and the uploading APs by an association graph. We discuss two types of deployment mechanisms for a mobile crowdsensing system: AP deployment mechanism and event deployment mechanism. Furthermore, we model and discuss the Nash Equilibrium between the AP deployment and the event deployment. Our extensional experiments verify the effectiveness of our mechanisms.
