摘要

This paper deals with the seismic retrofitting of two reinforced concrete buildings in Eastern Sicily notrnoriginally designed to withstand the seismic action. Some special characteristics of the two buildingsrnsuggested the choice of a base isolation retrofitting system. Tests performed on the original buildingrnmaterials and also structural analyses performed on the original and on the retrofitted buildings suggestedrnthat some stiffening of the superstructure was required. The reasons that led to the retrofitting and to thernchoice of the retrofitting system will be presented in some detail. The analyses conducted for thernevaluation of the seismic resistance and vulnerability of the existing buildings and of the seismicrnresistance of the retrofitted buildings will also be presented.
