This paper describes the Digital Fuel Ball Counting System designed for the 10MWrnHigh-Temperature Gas-cooled Experimental Reactor (HTR-10). It is a critical system for thernfuel loading/unloading system and for HTR-10 itself. A digital and intelligent signalrnprocessing method has been adopted in the system in order to count the number of the passingrnfuel balls accurately, continuously, automatically and reliably. The most challenging problemsrnare how to search the signal peaks, how to deal with the floating and varying signals, how torneliminate the noises and pseudo peaks, how to analyze the time relationship, and how torncoordinate the functions of sampling signals, counting fuel balls, communicating with PLC,rndisplaying all results in a windows-based system, etc. It has been proved to be successfulrnthrough the test and operation in HTR-10.
