Chemical modification of natural clinoptilolite-heulandite zeolitic tuff and bentoniternwith octadecyldimethylbenzyl ammonim ion (ODMBA) increased adsorption of zearalenonern(ZEN) as the levels of ODMBA increased. Improved adsorption was felt to be related tornincreased hydrophobicity of the mineral surfaces. The organozeolite OZ-5D (5 meqrnODMBA/100g) required 10X less ODMBA than the organobentonite OB-50D (50 meqrnODMBA/100g) for maximum ZEN adsorption (100%), at pH 7. The organozeolite OZ-2Drn(2 meq ODMBA/100g), at pH 3, showed high in vitro adsorption of ZEN (93%), ochratoxinrnA (96%), ergopeptine alkaloids (96 and 97%) and aflatoxin B_1(99%).
