In order to predict the mechanical properties of a metallic sheet, the evolution of micro-structure and crystallographic texture must be simulated. During the thermomechanical processing of Al sheet products in commercial production lines the material experiences a complex history of temperature, time and strain paths. Thus, the common approximation of rolling by plane strain deformation usually represents an oversimplification. Furthermore, at various steps of the thermomechanical processing recrystallization may occur, which further affects texture evolution. The present paper reviews a few recent approaches to model texture evolution in commercial production of Al sheet. In particular, non-uniform strain states as well as the coupling of models for rolling and recrystallization texture simulations are addressed.
