We present a finite volume method to determine ef-rnfective transport coefficients in fibrous porous me-rndia, with aim to characterize the porous transportrnlayer (PTL) of a proton exchange membrane fuelrncell (PEMFC). Using domains generated to mimic thernanisotropic structure of these media, directional coeffi-rncients are found and compared to the relationships cur-rnrently used in the PEMFC modelling literature. Thesernrelationships do not account for the anisotropic struc-rnture of the PTL. In addition, our results show that thesernrelations generally overestimate effective transport co-rnefficients. Specifically, variations of up to 700% be-rntween commonly used relations and those obtained us-rning the current method are found. Using the correctrntransport coefficients in a full PEM CFD model willrnhave effect on predicted results.
