The coming third generation (3G) cellular systems are intended to carry highspeed data for multimedia and Internet application. As a result the receivers must have enhanced capabilities to achieve the required system performance. With this scope, the technology of smart antennas at the base station for (3G) wireless systems has received enormous interest and development in recent years. Antenna arrays are a critical element on the design and performance of smart antennas. Parameters as directivity, gain, diversity gain, mutual coupling, direction of main beam, geometry and number of elements should be considered on the design of antenna arrays. Most proposed works of antenna arrays for smart antennas systems don't give a complete information about all antenna array parameters to be considered on the design and performance of such systems. In this paper we present a complete modeling and simulation of antenna arrays in smart antennas systems. Particularly, we emphasize those effects that have a strong influence on the performance system. The computer simulation results show the evaluation of high sensitive parameters that influence the performance of such systems.
